Sumali Sanyal, CFA*

Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager, Systematic Global Equities

Sumali Sanyal is Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager of Xponance’s Systematic Global Equities Platform, where she serves as Lead Portfolio Manager for the firm’s systematic active and passive equity products. She co-leads the Quantitative Research Group, Xponance’s collaborative forum for quantitative research, and co-chairs both the firm’s AI Committee and its Responsible Investing Committee.  Sumali co-founded Piedmont Investment Advisors, which was acquired by FIS Group, Xponance’s predecessor firm. At Piedmont, she led the Quantitative Equity team and launched the firm’s active and passive product suites. She served as Chief Operating Officer for several years and, at the time of the acquisition, held the position of Co-CIO of Equities. Earlier in her career, she was Director of Quantitative Research at Loomis Sayles.

Sumali earned her B.S. and M.S. in Economics from the University of Calcutta, one of India’s premier academic institutions, and her M.B.A. in Finance and Management Information Systems from Oakland University in Michigan. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing. Sumali serves on the board of the CFA Society of North Carolina and is a member of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA), 100 Women in Finance, and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE). She previously served on the boards of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Emily K Center, and on the Grants Committee of The Art of Giving.
